Fly-Tying Kits
by Ken Collins - March 20, 2025
Fly tying kits can have a bad name. Many kits can work against new tyers in a number of ways with many kits on the market today are simply a dumping grounds for overstocked, or poor quality materials.
Some quality fly tying kits are out there and come with great material and instructions to tie a number of solid flies. But, as a newer fly tyer, figuring out which kits are "legit" and what ones are just a junk clearance sale in disguise can be difficult. Here at Troutfitter's we take a different approach to fly tying kits. We want people to be successful at tying effective flies that work and that will build their fly tying skills. This is the foundation to all our fly fishing education.
We carefully prepare you for success in your development as a fly angler or tyer. Our alumni of students from over 30 years of instruction speaks well of this sincere approach to fly fishing education.
Our fly tying kits provide more than just a guideline to a fly that "should work" and looks OK. We have prepared the right material and techniques to tie some of our favorite "guide flies" properly. The kits take the guess work out of picking the right materials, especially the best hook, for a given pattern and putting all of these items in one place with detailed instructions.
These kits contain a wealth of experience, that we are happy to share with you, in a simple looking little bag. No short cuts, no substitutions only "the goods" of time proven patterns we have developed and evolved over years of experience at the bench and on the water. We are very proud of the kits that we developed and share with our customers, because they have been built out of a passion for sharing fly fishing success with you.
